This Do In Remembrance Of Me

After Jesus' entry into Jerusalem riding upon the donkey, He and the disciples stayed in the city and the surrounding area during this week to keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread, or the Passover. During this time is when He cleansed the Temple of the moneychangers that had turned God's house into a "den of thieves" Mark 11:17, and He preached several sermons, including the Olivet discourse. "Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed." Luke 22:7. Jesus instructed Peter and John to "Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat." Luke 22:8. He told them that as they entered the city, that there would be a man that would meet them, bearing a pitcher of water. They were to follow him into the house he entered and say to the goodman, "THE MASTER saith, My time is at hand;I will keep the passover AT THY HOUSE with my disciples." Matthew 26:18.. The goodman then showed them a large upper room furnished, and there they made ready the Passover.

It was by God's divine appointment that the servant who was bearing the pitcher of water be where He wanted him AT THE TIME HE wanted him there. He prepared this meeting to take place in order to provide for the need of having a place to keep the Passover. What would have happened if the servant had not obeyed the goodman of the house in going when asked to get the water from the well, or delayed in doing so? Jesus would still have kept the Passover, but it may have been at another place. HE WILL ALWAYS accomplish His Will, but He uses those who are already serving, in obedience, to do so. He gives us the blessing of being able to serve Him, and also blesses us for obedience. If this servant had not obeyed, HE WOULD HAVE MISSED OUT ON THE BLESSING! God had chosen this home to be honored with THE PASSOVER LAMB HIMSELF! How many times have we missed out on the blessing of the Lord simply because we either did not do His command, or delayed in doing so? "To delay is to disobey" is one of the things I learned in Bible college. When God speaks, He expects us to do His Word then: not to wait until WE are ready to do so. Thank the Lord that HE ALLOWS US to be used in His Divine Plan!

"And when the hour was come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him. and He said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer; For I say unto, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God." Luke 22:14-16.  The Lord was speaking here of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb (Rev. 19:7-9). This is when all of the saved will sit down to eat with the Lord at His Heavenly table. The Lord said He had desired to eat that passover with them to let them know that the next time they would all sit together for a supper would be then, with all of His saints. The Lord knew His death was about to take place, and He was glad to have this fellowship one last time before it. The Lord desires fellowship with His children ( I John 1:3), and this was just a picture of what IS to come when we are with the Lord at the Marriage Supper, where we will never be apart from Him again!

"And when He had given thanks, He BRAKE IT, and said, Take eat; THIS IS MY BODY, which is broken for you;THIS DO IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME." I Corinthians 11:24. The unleavened bread that they were eating was the picture of Jesus' body in which was no sin (leaven). He was telling the disciples that the whole time the Passover had been observed that the bread pointed TO HIM! It was the type of His Body that would be given on the Cross in judgment for our sins. Notice that they all took pieces of the bread from one bigger piece He divided among them. This showed that His sacrificial death on the cross would be ONCE and would be for ALL! Hebrews 10:10-12 says, "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ ONCE FOR ALL. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which CAN NEVER TAKE AWAY SINS; BUT this man, after He had offered ONE SACRIFICE for sins FOREVER, sat down on the right hand of God;" Amen!

"And He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, DRINK YE ALL OF IT: For THIS IS MY BLOOD OF THE NEW TESTAMENT, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." Matthew 26:27 &28. The Lord told the apostles here also that the cup they were to drink from henceforth would be the picture of HIS BLOOD! The cup had always pointed to His Holy Blood, THE INNOCENT BLOOD (Matthew 26:4), that would take aways sins FOREVER! When I was reading this verse, the phrase DRINK YE ALL OF IT jumped off the page to me! It took ALL OF JESUS BLOOD to pay the price for our sins! I have heard some say that because Jesus is holy that it would have only taken one drop of His blood to save us, but this is in error! Just as the sacrifice had to die on the altar with the blood flowing down, so did OUR SAVIOUR! The last bit of blood in His precious body flowed from His side when He was pierced with the sword. (John 19:34). This would be the LAST TIME the BLOOD would flow to wash us whither than snow! The Lord was teaching the disciples to observe these two things in REMEMBRANCE OF HIM from henceforth. No longer would they have to observe Passover looking TOWARD the Messiah's coming death, for it was to take place then. The would from that point on observe the NEW TESTAMENT, as Jesus stated, to look BACK to THE LAMB OF GOD, that TOOK AWAY THE SINS OF THE WORLD! ( John 1:29).

"And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the Mount of Olives." Matthew 26:30. They sung a song in praise to God for the sacrifice and fellowship that they had all shared together. This shows us that we can have fellowship with the Lord because of His payment for our sins and we should praise Him! "Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!" Psalm 107:31

Thank God that we can be used in His service and receive the special blessing He has prepared for our obedience. Thank God for His broken body and precious Holy Blood that He shed for us! Praise His name for His Glorious Salvation this Easter!
